悬梁刺股(Xuánliáng cìgŭ)To work hard

Sūn Jìng, shì hàncháo yŏumíng de zhèngzhìjiā, mĕitiān cóng zăo dào wăn dúshū.
孙    敬,是      汉朝      有名     的     政治家,  每天     从    早    到   晚    读书.


Yŏushí huì píjuàn dé zhí dă kēshuì, tā biàn zhăo le yì gēn shéngzi, yì tóu băng zài
fángliáng shàng, yì tóu有时     会   疲倦  得  直 打  瞌睡,他  便    找   了一 根     绳子,一  头   绑   在      房梁       上,一  头
shù zài tóufa shàng, dāng tā dúshū dádŭn shí, tóu yì dī,
shéngzi jiù huì chĕ zhù tóufa, zìrán yĕ jiù
束   在   头发   上,   当    他  读书   打盹   时,头 一 低,绳子  就  会  扯  住   头发,自然 也 就 不
kēshuì le.
瞌睡   了。


Sū Qín, zhànguó shí zhù
míng de zònghéngjiā, dúshū shí tā zhŭnbèi le yì bă zhuīzi,   yì dă kēshuì, biàn
苏  秦,  战国     时    著名     的     纵横家,   读书   时 他    准备   了一 把  锥子,一 打   瞌睡,便
yòng zhuīzi wăng  zìjĭ  de dàtuĭ shàng cì, qiăngpò  zìjĭ  qīngxĭng guò lái.
用      锥子    往   自己 的 大腿   上    刺, 强迫   自己    清醒    过   来。


Hòurén cóng Sū Qín hé Sūn Jìng liăng rén qínfènkŭxué de gùshi zhōng, yĭnshēn chū le  “xuánliáng
后人       从    苏  秦  和  孙    敬    两    人    勤奋苦学   的  故事    中,   引申     出 了       “悬梁
cìgŭ” zhè ge chéngyŭ,yòng lái  bĭyù  fāfèn dúshū, kè kŭ  xuéxí de jīngshén.
刺股” 这   个    成语,  用   来 比喻  发奋  读书、刻  苦  学习  的   精神。


English Translation:

In ancient China, there are two people, named Sūn Jìng and Sū Qín, who studied very hard. But when they studied for a long time, they dozed off. Then one tied his hair to the house beam, and the other stuck an awl in his calf, so that they accomplished in their studies.
