Mini-Test Answer: 没 (méi)

Jan. 4, 2012

Beginner Level 初级 (chū jí)

The correct answer to this test is A.

Analysis:

“没 (méi)” and “不 ()” are both negative words. “没 (méi)” refers to the objective negation while “不 ()” refers to the subjective negation.

For example:

我不吃饭。(Wǒ bù chīfàn.) means “I don’t want to eat.” This expresses the speaker’s will.
我没吃饭。(Wǒ méi chīfàn.) means “I haven’t eaten.” This expresses the fact that the speaker has not eaten yet.

In this test, Dan told Mike he hasn’t been to China yet, and that he hoped to be able go to China together with Mike. As for choice “C,” “想 (xiǎng)” means to think or to want.
