         Kàn nàge nǚháir, wǒ tǐng xǐhuan tā de. 
 Dan: 看   那个 女孩儿,我  挺   喜欢   她  的。

 

         Look at that girl. I like her very much.

         Nà jiù gǎnjǐn zhuī ya, cuòguòle kě jiù láibují le.

Analysis:

A. ”追逐 (zhuīzhú)” means ”chase.”
B. ”追/追求 (zhuī/zhuīqiú)” means ”court/pursue.”
C. ”追查 (zhuīchá)” means ”trace.”

In Chinese, the character “追 (zhuī)” literally means to run after someone or something. Another common meaning of “追 (zhuī)” is to pursue/court. Its object can be somebody or something.

Examples:

Tā yǐjīng zǒu de hěn yuǎn le, tā zěnme zhuī yě méi zhuī shang.
他  已经   走  得   很   远    了, 她  怎么    追  也  没    追   上。 

 

He was far ahead and she could not reach him.

Tom zhuīle tā nǚ péngyou sānnián, tā cái dāyìng hé tā jiāowǎng de.
Tom   追了 他  女     朋友      三年, 她 才   答应   和  他    交往    的。

 

After he pursued her for three years, Tom’s girl friend agreed to date with him.

Liú Xiáng cóng méiyǒu fàngqì duì gèng hǎo chéngjì de zhuīqiú.
刘    翔       从     没有      放弃  对     更    好    成绩    的   追求。

 

Liu Xiang has never given up on going after better achievements.
