月亮代表我的心 (yuèliang dàibiǎo wǒ de xīn) arguably has been the most popular karaoke song in China for the past 30 years. Most people can sing this song and now it is still one of the best-loved songs with the new generation of Chinese.

The song expresses that words cannot adequately convey one’s love, but the moon, which is the symbol of romance in Chinese culture, can show deep affection.

You must wonder why the moon? In Chinese literature, the moonlight always is associated with romantic love stories and reminds people the purest love. And a lasting moon symbolizes forever love.

邓丽君 (Dèng lì jūn), the original singer of this song is widely known for her folk songs and romantic ballads. Teng died from a severe asthma attack in 1995. Even now she is still an icon in the Chinese pop music industry. The song 月亮代表我的心 (yuèliang dàibiǎo wǒ de xīn) is one of her most popular songs.
