Answer to How Do You Connect Sentences? Test Yourself with This HSK 4 Quiz

Feb. 23, 2018

Answer: B

Analysis:
Píngshí wǒ qí zìxíngchē shàng xiàbān.
Usually I go to work by bicycle.

Kěshì jīntiān qǐwǎn le.
But I got up late today.

Suǒyǐ jiù dǎchē lái gōngsī.
So I took a taxi to the company.

These 3 sentences, only the second one has the subject “我 () I,” so sentence 2 should be put in the beginning.

Pay more attention to the conjunctions “可是 (kěshì)” and “所以 (suǒyǐ)”:
可是 (kěshì): but; yet; however. It can be used in a sentence to indicate an unexpected reason.

所以 (suǒyǐ): so; therefore; as a result.

“今天起晚了。(Kěshì jīntiān qǐ wǎnle.)” is the reason. “打车来公司。(Dǎchē lái gōngsī.)” is the result. “可是 (kěshì)” and “所以 (suǒyǐ)” are used to connect these two sentences. According to the cause and effect relationship, reason goes first, then the result. Sentence 1 should be put in front of sentence 3 according to the series of events.
So the correct sentence order should be: 2-1-3.
