HSK Sample Test Answer: 对象 (Beginner)

Beginner Level 初级 (chūjí)

Correct answer: C
Analysis:
A. “房间 (fángjiān)” means “room.”

B. “同学 (tóngxué)” means “classmate.”
C. “对象 (duìxiàng)” can be used to refer to “男朋友 (nánpéngyou) boyfriend”
or “女朋友 (nǚpéngyou) girlfriend”  in Chinese language.
D. “公司 (gōngsī)” means company.

With the correct anwer C, the whole sentence means:
“A short time ago, someone introduced a boyfriend to my younger sister.”

Analysis for solving the above HSK question:

All the phrases in the four answers are nouns, so all of them can be objects of the verb “介绍 (jièshào) introduce” in Chinese grammar. But only “介绍对象 (jièshào duìxiàng) find someone a date” is commonly used in Chinese language. Specifically, “房间 (fángjiān)” should not be used with the verb “介绍 (jièshào) introduce.” so A is not the right answer. “同学 (tóngxué)” can be used together with the verb “介绍 (jièshào) introduce,” but if B is chosen, the sentence doesn’t make sense. As for D, it is not used together with the verb “介绍 (jièshào) introduce.”

Note:

The original meaning of  “对象 (duìxiàng)” in Chinese language is “object” or “target.”

  1. I have learned the Chinese word “对象” when preparing HSK test. But I am wondering if “对象” can be used to refer to the wives in Chinese language.

  2. “对象” is not often used to refer to wives in Chinese language. It often used to refer to the boyfriends or girlfriends before the marriage. This is what my Chinese teacher told me on my HSK courses.

  3. If I want to take the HSK test, how many Chinese characters should I learn? I think the Chinese words like “对象” is a little hard, because it has more than two meanings.

  4. Amiable fill someone in on and this fill someone in on helped me alot in my college assignement. Say thank you you for your information.
