Tā lái dào jiàoshì, jīngyà de fāxiàn jiàoshì lǐ yī gè rén dōu méiyǒu.
他 来  到   教室, 惊讶  地  发现    教室  里 一 个 人  都   没有。
When he got to the classroom, he was surprised to find that there wasn’t a single person there.

The following 4 adjectives all describe people’s emotions and sentiments:

A. 高兴 (gāoxìng) Happy
Example:
Hěn gāoxìng jiàn dào nǐ.
很      高兴    见   到  你。
I’m happy to meet you.

B. 惊奇 (jīngqí) Wonder; be surprised; be amazed
Example:
Zài nàr jiàn dào tā wǒ gǎn dào hěn jīngqí.
在 那儿 见   到  他  我  感  到    很   惊奇。
I was surprised at seeing him there.

C. 担心 (dānxīn) Worried
Example:
Wǒ dānxīn xiàzhōu de kǎoshì.
我    担心     下周   的   考试。
I feel worried about my exam next week.

D. 着急 (zháojí) Anxious
Example:
Bié zhāojí , zhàogù hǎo nǐ zìjǐ.
别  着急,   照顾   好  你 自己。
Just take care of yourself and don’t worry.

This quiz is to test HSK student’s ability to associate synonyms together in Chinese. Out of the selection, only answer B has a similar meaning to “惊讶 (jīngyà).”
