Note:

When “息 ()” is used as a noun, it means “interest”, normally matched with “利 ()”, hence “利息 (lìxī) interest”, and it also means “news”, hence “消息 (xiāoxī) message”.

When “息 ()” is used as a verb, it means to rest, hence “休息 (xiūxī) rest”, or it means to cease, such as words like “息怒 (xīnù) cease being angry”.

Context:

Tā líkāi jiā yǐjīng yì nián le, dào xiànzài hái méiyǒu rènhé xiāoxi.

Qǐng xīnù, tā búshì yǒuyì màofàn nǐ de.
请息怒, 他不是有意冒犯你的。
Please cease being angry. He didn’t mean to offend you.

Zhè zhǒng dàikuǎn fāngshì zhǐ shōuqǔ 4% de lìxi.
这种贷款方式只收取4%的利息。
This kind of loan charges only 4% interest.
