Cool. Except — nobody talks like that in real life.
The Problem with Textbooks?
They teach “Museum Chinese. It’s clean, formal, and painfully stiff. Perfect if you’re preparing for the HSK exam. Not so helpful when your coworker casually texts you:
Zài bù zài？
在不在？
You there?
Or when your friend looks at you and says:
Wǒ fú le nǐ le.
我服了你了。

You don’t always say:
Wǒ bù zhīdào.

More naturally, people say:
Bù zhīdào ēi.

No idea.
Wǒ yě mēng le.

I’m confused too.
Instead of:
Wǒ xǐhuān hē kāfēi.
我喜欢喝咖啡。
I like drinking coffee.
You’ll hear:
Wǒ kāfēi chéng yǐn le.
我咖啡成瘾了。
I’m addicted to coffee.
Jīntiān méi kāfēi wǒ zhēn de bùxíng.
今天没咖啡我真的不行。
I seriously can’t function without coffee today
This is the Chinese people actually use in life, in DMs, in the office, and at cafes. Your textbook doesn’t teach that.
