The pronunciations of “公园(gōngyuán)” and “员工(yuángōng)” are similar. However, their meanings are completely different.

“公园(gōngyuán),” as a place word, means “park.” It can be used as a subject or an object and used with prepositions such as “在(zài), in or at.”

Examples:

Zhè shì yígè měilì de gōngyuán.

这    是  一个 美丽 的 公园

This is a beautiful park.

Gōngyuán lǐ yǒu hěnduō rén.

公园 里  有   很多      人。

There are many people in the park.

Wǒ bàba zài gōngyuán.

我   爸爸  在  公园

My father is at the park,

“员工(yuángōng)” is a noun and it means “employee”. It also can be used as a subject or as an object.

Examples:

Wǒmen gōngsī yǒu hěnduō yuángōng.

我们      公司     有   很多      员工

There are many employees in our company.

Zhège yuángōng hěn hǎo.

这个     员工 很    好。

This employee is very good.

Lǐmíng shì yígè lǎo yuángōng.

李明     是  一个老   员工

Liming is an old employee.

Translation of the dialogue:

Alan: Mike, zhè shì peter, wǒ de hǎo péngyou.

Alan: Mike,这  是  Peter,我的 好    朋友。

Alan: Mike, this is Peter, my best friend.

Peter, zhè shì mike, wǒ men gōngsī de xīn yuángōng.

Peter,这 是   Mike,我 们   公司    的  新  员工。

Peter, this is Mike, a new employee at our company.

Peter: Nǐhǎo Mike, hěn gāoxìng rènshi nǐ. Nǐ yě xǐhuan zài gōngyuán yùndòng ma?

Peter: 你好 Mike,很   高兴       认识   你。你也喜欢    在   公园         运动        吗?

Peter: Hello, Mike. It’s nice to meet you. Do you like to exercise in the park too?

Mike: Shì de, wǒ xǐhuan zài gōngyuán pǎobù.

Mike: 是   的,我 喜欢    在  公园          跑步。

Mike: Yes, I like jogging in the park.

Alan: Wǒmen yìqǐ pǎobù ba!

Alan: 我们      一起 跑步   吧!

Alan: Let’s jog together!
