Warren Buffett Bullish on China’s BYD

The “Sage of Omaha” Warren Buffett has invested in “比亚迪 (bǐyàdí) BYD-Build Your Dreams” CO Ltd, which is a Chinese manufacturer of batteries, “手机 (shǒujī) cellphones,” and electric vehicles founded by Wang Chuanfu. Buffett “看好 (kànhǎo)” apparently is bullish on the rise of “技术 (jìshù) technology” -based company BYD. In one meeting, Buffett wore the “标志 (biāozhì) logo” of BYD, showing his recognition of the company. He also “赠送 (zèngsòng) gave a gifta wallet, to Wang Chuanfu, wishing him “财气 (cáiqì) luck in making more money.” This has coincided with a humorous connotation by some folks that BYD should mean Bring Your Dollars. Wang Chuanfu presented Buffet a BYD’s F6DM dual-mode electric vehicle model which has revealed BYD’s confidence in the field of “电动车 (diàndòngchē) electric vehicles.” The e6 car is a type of pure electric vehicle researched and developed by BYD itself. Comparing with other electric cars, its running distance per charge is the longest by far in the world. The e6 cars are expected to enter the U.S. market in 2011. Electricity is a “污染 (wūrǎn) pollution” -free energy resource, so the prospect of electric cars was favored by Buffett.
看好 (kànhǎo) To be bullish on…

“看 (kàn)” means to look and watch and “好 (hǎo)” means good.

Example:
Suízhe Zhōngguó de kuàisù fāzhǎn, xǔduō lǎowài dōu yīnwèi kànhǎo Zhōngguó de qiánjǐng ér duì hànyǔ xuéxí chǎnshēng xìngqù.

随着中国的快速发展,许多老外都因为看好中国的前景而对汉语学习产生兴趣。

With the rapid development of China, many foreigners are interested in learning the Chinese language, for they are bullish on the future of China.
“财 (cái)” Luck in making more money

“财 (cái)” refers to money or wealth and “气 (qì)” refers to luck.

Example:

Tā zhēn yǒu cáiqì, chǎogǔ dōu fā le hěnduō cì le.
他真有财气,炒股都发了很多次了。

He really had luck in making money, for he has hit the stock jackpot many times.

生词 (shēngcí) Vocabulary

手机 (shǒujī): n cellphone

技术 (jìshù): n technology

标志 (biāozhì): n logo

赠送 (zèngsòng): v to give a gift

电动车 (diàndòngchē): n electric vehicle

污染 (wūrǎn): n/v pollution/to pollute

Amazing 2008 Beijing Olympic Opening Ceremony
I’m still excited about the Beijing Olympic opening ceremony I had experienced in Bird’s Nest, it’s so great and Chinese people work hard. I was so lucky I got the ticket. In the days I stayed in Beijing, I fell in love with China culture, the roast duck, Beijing opera, Hutong and courtyard, especially the people there. I lived in a courtyard during my stay in Beijing. The master is extremely hospitable, he introduced every aspect of Beijing and told me where there is fun and delicious food.
Every time I watch the YouTube videos about Beijing Olympic, they bring my mind back to the time I spent in Beijing. I am really impressed with the spectacular performances at the opening and closing ceremonies. I’ve never seen anything comparable. So I got the opening ceremony and closing ceremony DVD after returning. I rip DVD of the ceremony and found more amazing scenes I didn’t experience in Bird’s Nest.
Here’re some amazing scenes that impressed me a lot.
The countdown – 2,008 drummers in silvery robes hit their lighting drums (it is confirmed as an oldest Chinese ancient percussion instrument) to present us an astonishing countdown! It’s a blend of technology and tradition.
The flying Olympic rings – The Olympics rings were illuminated like thousands of stars and raised to the air. It seems that there’re angels carrying the rings…
The scroll – The scroll was gradually opened, displaying the origin and development of China’s history and culture. There’s a piece of paper in the painting scroll center, representing that the paper was one of China’s ancient four inventions. The patterns and designs of the painting scroll highlighted the flow of the Chinese origin from rock paintings, pottery and bronze….
Performance of Chinese characters – “3,000 disciples” of Confucius hold the bamboo slip chanting. The movable-type printing performers showed us three Chinese characters which mean harmony and visualized the Great Wall.
Tai Chi performance – Tai Chi is Chinese Kung Fung Fu. It’s fantastic that the performers changed different shapes yet the group is still neat and tidy. And the on-floor electronic display is amazing! The earth and song – Liu Huan and Sarah Brightman sang “You and Me” on a fantasy blue globe. I love it! We are in the same world, we have the same dream.
The Olympic cauldron light – Li Ning (The Prince of Gymnastic in China) carried the Olympic torch and was lifted to the air, then walked on the clouds like a superman to light Olympic cauldron. The way they lit the cauldron was very creative and original.
And there’re more impressive scenes. I eventually rip DVD clips I love most from DVD to MP4 file, and watched them on my iPhone. And I also rip DVD to capture some gorgeous images from the Beijing Olympic opening ceremony DVD and make a screen saver from these. BTW, I rip DVD through ImTOO DVD Ripper Ultimate. Its capability to rip DVD is also amazing like the opening ceremony.
Chinese people did a good job. Great people. Splendid show. Congratulations to China!
