Answer to HSK Quiz:Dì (第) or Dì (弟)?

Jul. 14, 2022

Answer: AB

Analysis:

1. Zhè shì wǒ dì yī cì lái zhōnɡ ɡuó.
1. 这   是  我  第 一 次 来  中      国。
This is my first time to visit China.

(第) is the character (弟) with bamboo strips “⺮”. It’s normally used to indicate ordinal numbers, e.g. dì yī (第一): first; dì èr (第二): second; dì sān (第三): third, etc.

2. Wǒ de xiōnɡ dì xiàn zài zài zhōnɡ ɡuó.
2.  我  的    兄   弟  现   在  在    中      国。
My younger brother is in China now.

“弟” is equivalent to “弟弟” here, which means younger brother in English.
